“Orphans Care Center” (OCC) has been giving and keeps give joy to the little ones at these holidays.
Celebration of Saint Nicholas‘ Day
Together with publishing house “Skrynya” OCC held action for orphans, called “Every fourth book as a gift to orphans”. In the issue orphans will be delivered nearly 200 books, as well as a great number of gifts from publishing house: books, puzzles, magnets.
At the same time volunteers from “Helping hands” Movement under mission “Orphans Care Center”, seminarians and students of ecological college prepared a theatre performance for institutionalized children entitled “Present for Saint Nicolas”. Later on all children got the gifts and handmade letter from Saint Nicolas (for what we extend appreciation to our Ljuba M). To be noticed is that this is the first theatre performance played by our volunteers and, as it took the fancy of the public, so following is expected relatively soon (in particular there is already an idea about Christmas performance).
Saint Nicolas came to large families and needy families, single mother families, which are patronized by “Orphans Care Center” (all them are 10) – volunteers and chaplains of Center recently collected gifts, packaged them and helped to distribute gifts from St. Nicholas , which the children asked the Saint in their letters. They managed to collect so many products and aid that these, which will not spoil with keeping, could be distributed once a month for a long time (maybe even till spring). Besides families pupils of boarding schools at Bruhovichi and Vynnyky also got presents.
Volunteers from “Helping hands” Movement under mission “Orphans Care Center” weren’t also neglected by the Wonderworker of Myra – on December 19th at 19:00, he gave them their gifts in the cafe “Black Coffee”.
“Christmas School” (2-11 January 2014)
As far as not all children will have opportunity to spend Christmas holidays en famille, “Orphans Care Center” will bring the holiday spirit in boarding schools and orphanages. Overall, from 70 to 90 children are expected to attend the School . The basis of the program traditionally will be composed of masterclasses, common Christmas carols, the Nativity play, holiday walks and hikes.
2-5 January – masterclasses:
– “post card for prisoner”: they will be prepared for prisoners of penal colonies №30 and №48, and also of under-age predetention center (they will be presented with post cards named “To Dear Friend”). Furthermore, in the center masterclass will be given for under-aged to provide them opportunity to make such post card by themselves for their parents. Besides, they will have festive program duration of 2,5 hour.
– baking (New Year and Christmas baking cases) – in the end, there will be festive table with results of masterclass;
– learning of Christmas carols;
– viewing of Christmas movies;
– in one of boarding schools teachers will be taking part in the Nativity play as well as pupils;
Not only volunteers from “Helping hands” Movement are involved in “Christmas School”, but also students from Art Academy and students from the Eastern Ukraine. During School everybody produces goods with one’s own hands in order to present goods to people while visiting them with orphans for signing Christmas carols. For these needs we will also hold an open masterclass how to make post cards , it can be attended by ALL THOSE WHO WISH (prepared post cards will be presented to prisoners (nearby hundred), so we need YOUR HANDS).
Photo project “Christmas Miracle in Focus”
– photo exhibition: the result of common work of 12 photographers and Lviv orphans from city and the region boarding schools (one hard of hearing child is among them). Usually there is no opportunity in such places for child to test for that sort of art and to show talent, that’s why OCC had organized for orphans peculiar Christmas masterclass together with famous Lviv photographers. It’s kind of an unspoken competition for the last. On January 2th 2014 the opening of photo exhibition will take place, there 30 works will be presented – for 2 works from each pair “photographer+orphan”. Each work will have its number (for which all applicants within a week time will be able to vote for a particular job, leaving his “voice” in the box at information center of Saints Peter and Paul Garrison Church).
